I completely forgot I had a meeting tonight. I also had a last minute one this afternoon at 1:00. In between I had to run errands on my WAY to the night meeting. McDonalds was easy and cheap.
Oops.
My planned menu was:
Savory Meat Loaf, Panned Summer Squash, Melon and Pear Salad, Baked Custard
Somehow I will work that in because I was really looking forward to trying these recipes!
Tomorrow (Thursday) will be another errand/meeting half an hour away type of day. The menu I have planned for the evening accommodated the schedule. I just forgot about the Wednesday rearrangement when I planned this week's choices on Sunday night.
Planning is SO key to this. I don't think women in the 50s ran around as much as we do. For one, they had only one car. The meetings were not very far away and the fast food places were not available. They DID have TV dinners, but I remember them in the early 70s and they were NOT good.
I need a contingency plan for this middle of the week situation that comes up twice a month.
Did I mention that planning is KEY?

A mixed up schedule is a constant problem for me too. Unfortunately, my contingency plan is grilled peanut butter sandwich. I've had WAY too much of those lately! My mother always told me to plan and prep a week's worth of meals on the weekend. That never seems to work out though! :)
I think your mom is right.
Dr. Julie-Ann in her tips on saving money like your grandmother at:

talked about doing that, too. Her tips are free and WORTH getting and implementing.
I haven't quite gotten my mind around it yet, but I am fully aware that it's probably the answer to our modern-day scheduling situations.
