Monday's Stats

Day One is over. I thought I'd post my calorie consumption. It wasn't vintage today as I'm not quite prepared. I'll try to put that together in the morning for the rest of the week.

Meanwhile, my total calories for today: 1608

Total water for today: 5 glasses

Exercise: Oops! I forgot about that. If I don't do it first thing in the AM, I never get around to it.

Evaluation: Considering I've been putting away around 3000 calories a day, I've already cut my consumption in half!

Here's how the food went:

Breakfast (175): 1 slice bread, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1 tsp. jam

Lunch (305): BIG salad with 1 tablespoon flaxseed oil and 1 tablespoon lime juice. I also sprinkle cayenne in there. 1/2 can of cream soda because it was in the frig from last night and it called my name. All cans of soda have been banished.

Snack (475): Had some trouble mid-afternoon. I started out with 3 vanilla wafers. Still hungry. Saw the last bit of queso in the frig (when I retrieved the cream soda). It spoke to me and the tortilla chips chimed in. I limited myself to 3 tablespoons of the queso and 9 chips.

Still hungry. Added small apple.

4 more vanilla wafers joined me on my walk down to the cellar to add a log to the fire.

(Tomorrow will be better, though. The cokes are banished and I finished the queso. I'll send the vanilla wafers with hubby, but keep the apples.)

Supper (511): I was surprised at how high the calorie count was. I had 1 cup brown rice, 1 cup stir-fry veggies, and 4 oz. of grilled steak. I mixed it all together, and splashed a little soy sauce on it. Planning the menus will help avoid this high of a count, I think.

Dessert (142): I made Tapioca pudding as a nod to the mid-century.

Obviously if I reduce the snacks and drink only water, I will be well on my way to a weight-loss inducing calorie count!

I follow your blog (haven of home)since a couple of months ... but never left a comment because I didn't know what to say ...
But since you're on diet again I think I schould share my own experience:
I lost 15 kg (33lbs)without a special diet, just by learning to listen to my body again. My theorie is : our body has a "health weight" and it "asks" for calories (food) to maintain that health weight. If we don't listen to our feelings we eat to much and we gain weight if we eat to less and we are not healthy any-more.
So the rules I set for myself were:
1 Only eat when I'm hungry -> that's the difficult part because in the beginning I noticed that I even didn't know what it feels like beeing hungry.
2. Eat what ever I wanted to eat at the moment, if I wanted chocolate I ate chocolate but always stop eating if you're not hungry. That's very difficult to, because you have to pay attention to what you're feeling while you're eating. So I tried to do nothing else but eating while I was eating (no tv, no reading).
And that's it ...

Anyway, just want to wish you good luck in the diet you think right for you and hope you'll loose the weight you'd like to loose.

Greetings.

Eef.

PS : please indulge my faults, english isn't my mothertongue.

Good start

Really, it is okay to have one meal rather high in calories. No fainting allowed.

I did not do so well yesterday...

You know, Under $1000 Per Month has a lovely recipe for homemade soda that tastes remarkably like cream soda! Obviously it's not as healthy as water, but it's also not regular canned cream soda, so it might be a nice way to treat yourself from time to time. Plus, the recipe makes only a glass at a time, so nothing is left in the fridge to tempt you later!

If you're interested, the link is here: http://under1000permonth.blogspot.com/2009/08/frugal-healthy-soda.html

I'd recommend adding the club soda last, after mixing everything else well. Hopefully it'll help with the floating cinnamon I got when I tried it...

Eef--Thank you so much for sharing and congratulations on those 15kg lost!

What you say makes so much sense. I have tried one diet after another, and any time I feel deprived, I usually end up quitting.

I have been aware of your words all day as I've been making food choices. I'm so glad you decided to comment--you helped me today!

I was very disappointed that I am able to speak only one language when I visited your blog. One of my biggest regrets! I wish I could speak another language even 1/4th as good as your English!

Are you in France? Are those your children on your blog? Is the last picture you?

Rini--Thanks for the link! That sounds intriguing!

Last week I broke down and made one of the fermented beverages in the Nourishing Traditions book (raspberry drink). My husband thought it was great.

You're right--when treating oneself, a healthier option is always nice!
